FMP Evaluation

For my final major project, I have completed my 63 pieces of squared paper related to the Magna Carta and the key word freedom. I presented these pieces in a sketchbook and in the sketch book I put them in a sequence of 3 transforming either into losing freedom or gaining freedom. I believed this was a good idea because it opens to the idea that there is freedom and it can be taken and given to an individual in different ways. I believe my 63 pieces represent well the difference between freedom and the opposite to freedom. I did have a problem as to how I was going to present these pieces and I was considering doing them individually but then I realised they would have no structure or clear link and would be harder for me to set out in my presentation. Therefore I came to the conclusion to do a set structure of three for each and then add them to a sketch book like the project was initially planned to have.

I enjoyed doing this part of the project as it was very me and each individual piece is unique to everyone else’s work. It gives us all a chance to show creativeness and our own interpretations of certain key words, also showing how we can link ideas together all to one word, freedom. I managed to use various kinds of media and expand my skills through this, by using a wet-on-wet with Brusho inks and chiaroscuro effect with white and black acrylic.

I have also done another piece of art which is to do with a free mind, this is done acrylic. This is shown as a grey woman wearing colourful psychedelic glasses on a colourful blue and orange background. I used this idea to incorporate that your mind is the key to your freedom and the mind being free is represented in wild and mixed colours. The water in the background also represents a type of freedom such as being easy flowing and moves wherever it wants without anyone really being able to control it. The grey scale of the woman’s face is to gather the idea that there’s more to someone that what you can see in their image, to look into their eyes and their soul is where you see the real side of the person and what makes them unique.

I also painted in acrylic my final piece; I took this idea from researching artists who look at the human figure, William T. Ayton. I used his ideas to develop a head shape in a 3D design on a black background with a star effect; the star effect is to show outer space so that the idea that the mind is free and there are no limits and it is past the boundary of “sky is the limit”. I also added a tentacle like substance emerging from the head, this is the heads ideas coming to life and taking place, much like the idea of freedom it is beginning to become free and free from the cage which is the mind and putting it to a solid for and something more developed. I have also done an extra piece of his work to show I have looked into the

In ceramics I’ve done a clay head with tally numbers in its eyes and the Star of David carved in the back of its head. This is linked to the holocaust and the idea that many Jews were captured and made slaves to the Nazis and looked down on and made to suffer by the Germans. I believe I slightly captured the hurt, pain and suffering in my ceramic piece. I also used very basic colours to add a dirt effect which the many sufferers of the holocaust would have faced. Using these colours also added a dark and depressing effect. I gathered the idea of the time in history being strong like a rock on history and to put it into art would be to turn it into something more everlasting and can be held in your hands, placed on a shelf and made to catch the eye.

I believe I have given a wide range of ideas in Freedom in my sketchbook and annotated them well, I have found some very useful sites along the way to help me with this project which are also noted down in my sketch book.

I managed my time well with the 63 pieces and managed my way around having 4 days less than the deadline, due to a holiday planned before any deadline was made. I have shown completion of my work on my SMART targets for the days I have been present, however, I have not for the days I haven’t been present and managed to do my work at home. Throughout the time I have been working on the project I have updated my Blog with Overviews and annotations of my work.

All together I enjoyed this project and the work I have done to complete it. My management of time went well however, it caused me a lot of stress due to being under pressure to ensure I have completed everything possible. My research was easy and a lot of my influence were not hard to find.

Vintage Project Evaluation

The era I chose was the 50s. The reason I chose this period was because I have always been in love with the fashion and hairstyles. The morals were better and there was less sexual pressure, Rudeness and nudity, more worn was better. Many woman had more respect for their selves. The research I did was mainly on images and information on Pinterest where there were facts about a certain image which linked into the 1950s, when searched. I was able to sketch the influence of the image for my sketch book I decided to look more at fashion, specifically women's fashion. Although, the technology, music and films all played a big part in styling the 50s, I believe fashion was very important and is what makes the decade distinct and recongnisable. The main movements were abstract expressionism, it tells me that this era was stepping into a colourful period, evolving from the black and white films and pictures. Some artists I’ve chose to look at are Albert Kotin and also Art Smith. Albert Kotin was involved in abstract expressionism and art smith was involved in jewelry.

The media I have chose are brusho inks, brown and black card, print outs, acrylics, coloured pencil, water colour and fine liner felt tip in colour. I believe the effectiveness of brusho inks were strong due to the colour intensity which is opposite to how the 50s were portrayed. Also, the card helped create a clean and precise living colour effect. I haven't done a wide  creative presentation of my annotations, but I have used coloured card and tracing paper for some of them. I have managed my time well as I haven't rushed to complete or be in front. However, in my spare time I did pages and ended up being further ahead than others. I could have got my pages the same way and had been more creative with the presentation of my annotations and maybe been more creative with my use of media. I enjoyed exploring the 50s era and finding out things I didn’t know and have found useful facts to know.

Final Piece FMP

For my final piece I have used examples of William T. Aytond work to create my own image on an A3 sized board in Acrylic. Ive used his head ideas to relate to having an open mind which the "tentacles" represent. Also how the head looks to be unraveling. Looking at the background of the painting it has a close look of outer space creating the idea that the mind is in a vast area and this open mind is free in a large space and i think this ultimately shows and creates an idea of true freedom. Opening your mind to the bigger things.

OVER VIEW FMP

I enjoyed doing this project as it was from your own ideas and development from other ideas based on one word, Freedom. i managed my time well and set myself targets to do so many pieces of the 63 which I completed. I however had some problems for example trying to find more information and more ideas for the triple sequence of my 63 pieces. I over came this by linking other things to my main ideas.
I have managed to keep my presentation minimal and spaced out for the board in the museum.
I have learned for my practical skills that I also am able to make a clay piece from ceramics which is relatable and also use wood from 3D workshops to use as the "canvas" to my art.
I had finished a lot earlier than i had been expected, leaving some spaces on my SMART targets, this was due to having less time due to a holiday booked y months prior to knowing any deadlines. However, I managed my time well to finish my work.

Magna Carter FMP

Magna Carta has lived on for 800 years, and is echoed in the United States Declaration of Independence and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.Perhaps Magna Carta’s most important legacy is that everyone – including our leaders – must obey the law.

What started out as a document of specific complaints from a group of barons has turned into an international symbol of liberty, without which we might not have the rights we value so much today.

Artists FMP

William T. Ayton

William T. Aytons work inhabits the interface between what is a myth, the human condition, beauty & imagination. His art has variously been described as surrealistic, symbolist, mystical, visionary and expressionistic. He looks at the human figure mainly the head but he adds an abstract look to it. Other images that he has looked at are angels and this is usually full bodied and it looks at the aspect of myths and religion. He also has done work on the holocaust which closely relates to tve freedom project.

Joanne Boon Thomas

The qualities Thomas likes to bring to her work are pleasingcompositions, harmonious colours and interesting textures with a quaity of light. "Water colour is the ideal medium to capture the transparent effectsof light".Thomas also believes that unpredictability and a challange is what attracts her.

Other Art FMP

On a seperate board i have, again in acrylic and on an A3 board, I have done a head which I developed from Glamour Magazine to show that through the eyes of one person everything could be seen differently and more creatively. Again I am looking at being open minded and being able to understand things with more freedom. The background also says that freedom can be like water and is free running and is never lost when found like freedom.
