PROJECT 3 EVALUATION

PORTRAITS AND MEDIA

I decided to base the Portrait project on myself. I chose myself as I thought I would be able to produce myself how I see myself. I also thought it would be better as I know myself more than others and it would be easier to portray into my art work.

 I looked at 3 different artists, Andy Warhol, Anthony Wysard and Pablo Picasso. I looked at the artist Andy Warhol as he produced many printed art works like the one he produced for Vogue on Caroline De Monaco. Looking at Anthony Wysard, I liked his work as it was very sketchy and cartoon looking, as Wysard was a caricaturist. The third artist was Pablo Picasso, I noticed his art was very plain and simple but had a range of unusual colours and shapes which were there to make what looked to be a face.  

 Some mood boards went well; the artist research sheet was one of them. However the sheet which I was experimenting different media with I didn't have the photos to attach as they were took on my phone due to an issue with the cameras.

 I thought using Brusho inks and bleach on my final piece was very effective as it added the colour to my work and the eye-catching effect. I liked how my hair was done using black card with white pencil to add Shine effect. I added the newspaper at the bottom to create a different texture. Then I used cut outs from magazines of my favourite artists to put on the outside to show my interest. There is also a small element of water colours which is seen on my lips on my final piece.

 I believe my brusho ink technique has improved to a great standard. Other techniques I already found quite easy, but again I believe I've still improved them to a good standard shown on my final piece.

 I managed my time well, however a big problem was I didn't find some of my work adequate and therefore I re-did them to something I myself preferred. I have also learned how to do Mono printing; this was very effective to my final piece.

 I didn't think that the project was as much useful for the art side, as it was just the same media as in previous projects but more of finding I and my personality.

 

 

3D WORKSHOP 1

DRILLING AND NAILING

First of all we talked about health and safety; how we need to wear correct shoes, tie back hair, and take lanyards off. We also learnt we need to Wear saftey goggles and where the emergency stop button is on the drills.

In the workshop we began finding the centre of our MDF (medium density fiberglass board) by using a ruler and measuring diagonally and draw a line. From the point at which crosses place the compass pin and draw a circle. Then we cut out the circle using a coping saw to cut out the shape leaving a millimetre or two from the drawn line. When this is done, we would file the wood down to the drawing point using a file and sand paper.
Then we started a new project which consisted of using a thin drill to make holes for pins to be hammered in, these are piolet holes. When we finished drilling around out design on another piece of MDF we hammered the nails into the MDF.
Looking back at our first project of the day we learnt how to cut through the wood without making a cut from the outside of the wood. We used a Brad point drill to create a hole for the centre cut out circle and we then took apart the drill so it will place through the drilled hole. From there you cut out the circle again leaving a small space from the line to be filed down later.

3D WORKSHOP 2

Today we learnt how to cut pieces of wood so the end would be at an angle and can therefore be connected to another piece to create another angle in a neater way. We used a board which helped us cut straight, and also a clam to avoid the wood from snapping. We then went to create a design for our final piece looking at our information project work.

PROJECT 2 EVALUATION

ARE YOU AN ANIMAL OR A BUILDING?

 

For this project the research I did, was on what kind of artist Peter Clarke was, and he is mainly a college artist but he also works with wood, leather and glass. After I researched who he was and the type of work he did, I then looked at his work and the pieces which he has had in exhibition. He influenced my final piece by his colourful use of collage which fit with my animal which is a chameleon which blends in with its background, helping me use the mixed detail to create its camouflage effect easier.

My first mood board was looking at me and what is important in my life; this was to help me gather ideas on what animal I could do. The next mood board was a study on Peter Clarke, recreating his art pieces with a collage, using magazines, cardboard and parcel paper. Next I created a mood board on my animal looking at its qualities. My final mood board was a collage of my animal which again was used with different materials in different colours using magazine articles to create the distinct Peter Clarke style. We also created a 3D cardboard cut-out of our animal which was also collaged.

Throughout the project I used PVA for the cardboard cut out of my animal, Cardboard, print paper, magazine paper (mainly used for the collages), brusho inks for the background, coloured pencil and fine liner to high light key images or detail.

There wasn’t much of a health and safety use, but when we used our craft knifes we would have to use cutting boards and we would have to watch our fingers when using the knife.

My strengths were colouring with coloured pencils and cutting pieces out to fit the collage outline. I had some issues sticking the collage pieces down as the glue would get everywhere with both a glue stick and PVA. If I were to do the project differently I would have took more time and more thought into my work and avoided rushing my mood boards because I’ve redone them as I did not think they were up to standard which has caused me to do extra work in the short amount of time given.

I believe the collage effect went really well getting the colours for my animal and it created an outstanding look. Looking at Peter Clarkes work has helped me create a better idea of my work not just using coloured paper but also map work and articles to make it stand out more.

I could improve my attention to detail as on some parts of my collages I have gone over the outline making it look un-neat and rushed.

I would’ve managed my time much easier if I’d have not redone so much of my work due to being unhappy with my work. I have managed to finish at the deadline as most of my work has been re-done at home or in SOLE. I believe we could have had more time to ensure our work was at a better standard and could be improved before handing them in.

FINE ART WORKSHOP 3

In this workshop, we created a painting from water colours of a montage of objects which was placed together. Then we did an acrylic painting of the same thing basing it on Matisse art work. We used the primary colours, then secondary colours with a minimal amount of tertiary colours.
